Ohio Ties for Busiest in Midwest Healthcare Start-ups

COLUMBUS, OH --

According to a recent report by Business First of Columbus, the state of Ohio ranked first alongside Pennsylvania in the Midwest for funding the highest number of healthcare start-ups in the first nine months of 2006.

Although Minnesota had the highest dollar value of funding start-ups at $181 million for the period, Ohio and western Pennsylvania tied with 19 investments each.

The report cited Ohio's $1.6 billion Third Frontier Program, which has funded $30 million this year to bioscience start-ups.

Total investment in start-ups in the Midwest so far in 2006 is $563 million versus $413 million in the same period in 2005, a percentage increase of 36%.
